Non Destructive Digging at Home

It exposes pipes and roots without cutting them, and because the soil goes into the tank instead of onto your lawn, your yard stays tidy. It also costs far less than repairing a severed water main. Vacuum excavation is usually the first step on any site where services cross the dig zone. Civil contractors and builders use us to prove the ground before an excavator starts, and plumbers, electricians and drainage contractors hire us for the same reason on a smaller scale, typically to expose a junction or a mains connection without cutting into it.

The Real Cost of Digging Blind
A Before You Dig Australia (BYDA) plan shows which services are registered near your site, but BYDA itself warns the plans are indicative only. Services get relocated, and older Gold Coast suburbs hold lines that were never mapped. On top of that, many asset owners require non destructive methods before any mechanical digging is allowed near their services. Put an excavator through a live cable and you’re looking at the repair bill plus a stopped site while the incident is investigated.

How much does vacuum excavation cost on the Gold Coast?
Most vacuum excavation work is charged at an hourly rate with a minimum call out, and the total depends on soil type, dig depth, site access and how far spoil needs to be carted for disposal. What is the difference between vacuum excavation and hydro excavation?
They’re the same method under different names. Hydro excavation, non destructive digging (NDD), suction excavation and potholing all describe using high pressure water to loosen soil while a vacuum draws it into a sealed tank on the truck. The terms are used interchangeably across the industry.
Do I still need a BYDA (Dial Before You Dig) plan?
A BYDA plan is still a legal and safety requirement before any excavation, and it tells us which asset owners have services near your site. What it can’t do is guarantee accuracy, which is where potholing comes in. We verify the actual depth and position of the services the plan shows, and often find ones it doesn’t.
Can your trucks access tight residential sites?
Our VTI trucks were designed with a compact footprint for exactly this reason, and the remote controlled boom extends reach into awkward corners, easements and behind fence lines. If you’re unsure about access, send us a photo of the site entry and we’ll confirm before booking.
Do you take on small residential jobs?
Small jobs are a regular part of our week, from exposing a water main to clearing a blocked stormwater line. If your job doesn’t actually need a vac truck, we’ll say so when you call rather than send one anyway.
What happens to the spoil after the dig?
All spoil is captured in the truck’s sealed 7,000 litre tank and disposed of lawfully as part of the job. Nothing is left piled on your site and you don’t need to organise a skip or separate waste contractor.
